Simple, copy, rotate, loft, and twist

Copied shape along x axis, scaled and rotated to individual proportions, lofted to create an enclosed form

Spiral with ring rail sweep, sliced to force flat edge at top and bottom of the form, these flatted edges would be the open areas.

Laser cut coaster: Select, refine, design.

 I have chosen to reimagine Katie Ohe's tribute to former Calgary painter Janet Mitchel. Janets Crown is located in the green space at the south/west corner of the Alberta University of the Arts building. Installed in 2001, Janets Crown celebrates 25 years in 2026, the same year AUArts will celebrate its centennial.  These coasters can be dismantled into 25 individual coasters.  Janet’s Crown, 2001. Industrial paint and clear coat on steel; polished stainless steel; grassy hillside. The piece occupies an area approximately 35 feet in diameter.
